Michael earned his PhD from UCSF investigating the cellular and synaptic mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease and dopamine-replacement therapy in the lab of Dr. Alexandra Nelson. As part of the Simons Foundation collaboration on Plasticity and the Aging Brain, his current postdoctoral work is focused on understanding the impact of aging on decision-making. In 2023, Michael was also awarded the AP Giannini Foundation fellowship. In his spare time, Michael enjoys reading, queer independent films, interior design, and coaching the Synaptic Strikers intramural soccer team. X account: @NeuroMikeRyan
